Confirmation Service Hours
Dear Confirmandi and Parents,
This is a very exciting time for you who are receiving Confirmation and for your parents. Up to this point your parents made the decisions regarding your faith. As you prepare for Confirmationyou are preparing to make adult decisions regarding your own faith.
There are many parts in preparing for Confirmation; learning more about your faith, learning more about the life of Jesus, learning more about your Church and learning more about the people who helped make the Church what it is.
Another very important part of preparation for Confirmation is our service to others; how we reach out to others in need, how we take an active part in the life of our parish and our Church. This parish requests 30 Service Hours beginning in 7th Grade and ending before Confirmation in 8th Grade.
In discussion with the Director of Religious Education and priests of the parish 20 Service Hours would be parish based. What that means is taking an active role in the life of the parish and parish liturgies.
Below is a list of just some of the opportunities the parish is offering:
- Leading the Prayer of the Faithful at weekend masses (Universal Prayers)
- Being trained as a Junior Sacristan
- Assisting at the Sacrament of Baptism (Reading, leading the Prayer of the Faithful and assisting with the Holy Oils)
- Serving at Weddings and Funerals on Saturdays
- 5 Service Hours Given to All 7th Grade Altar Servers
- 5 Service Hours to members of any of the parish choirs
- Assisting at Religious Education/School Masses and liturgies e.g. preparing for confessions etc
The above are regular opportunities to gain Service Hours but there will be many once off opportunities e.g. Christmas and Easter, Meet and Greet Sundays etc.
The 10 remaining Service Hours are community basede.g. charity shops, soup kitchens, food banks etc. Helping one’s own family is not considered service hours.
To register for any of the above the parish is establishing a 2019 Confirmation Web Pagethat you can access by going on the parish website and there you will find a link that should bring you to the above page and from there you can put your name in the different groupings and what mass/masses you are available for and what events.
I would like to leave you with this quote from Matthew 25:40 And the King will answer, “In truth I tell you, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it to me.”
